Mon Refugees Organization - Malaysia


The more human rights violation increase in Mon State. The numbers of refugees flee to neighboring country also increase. Some them fled to Malaysia and refused in here. Formerly refugees have no rights to do and solve their problem such as health care problem and security and other social problem. So, all Mon refugees arrived in Malaysia collected and founded Mon Refugees Organization (MRO) on April 26, 2005. So, this is Mon refugees organization was born and originated from the womb of Mon members and Mon community in Malaysia. MRO will let all people know the MRO always stands by all ethnics who get trouble and come to MRO. We will help and solve their problems as we can. On the other hand, MRO also opens Education Center for the children and shelter for the children who are studying in the center. We estimate of () members. The 65 percent of population is male and 35-percent of the population is female. 200-people are under 18-year old.

Activities in MRO

All MRO community workers carry on their activity for the refugees who are combating social problems and others. Their main activities are;

1. Supporting the education program of the Mon adult and children.
2. Taking care of Mon Refugees health problems by sending to clinic and hospital.
3. Looking for the job vacancies and replacing the unemployed members.
4. Assisting to release the arrested and detained members by approaching UNHCR.
5. Upgrading the qualification of the committee members, education the members to improve their proficiencies and skill, organizing the quality of members.
6. Helping and protecting the Mon people from all issues of their necessities.
7. Building up the organization from basic level processing their registered membership card.
8. Interaction with other communities of Burma ethnic groups and NGOs in Malaysia for health and mutual relationship.

Registration

1. A member must be borne by genuine Mon parents.
2. At least, He or She mother of father must be Mon and he need to speak Mon Language well.
3. A member must come to office and sign on registration form.
4. A member has to pay 60 RM membership fees for one year.
5. MRO will not take responsibility any are that can mitted crimes such as stealing, fighting, drunkenness and drugs addicted and who broke law of Malaysia.
6. A member will be expelled who makes problem among Mon Nation and who created separations within community.

For Registration Procedure office manager and computer operator are responsible for that their duty are they person who come to MRO Office to make membership card need to check
(1) His native town situation and his biography and background.
(2) Why he fled from Myanmar?
(3) Is he really Refugee?
After interviewed by office manager the new comer need to meet again with Chairman, Vice Chairman and secretary. This (4) persons decide for new comer accept as MRO member. This (4) persons need to have the same decision. If the decision different in view of one person, the process are change to next week or next month. After four persons agree the office manager listed for new comer in his temporary membership book, Name DOB etc. The making card process is more than a week because every weekend we have EC meeting. In EC meeting we share our view each other and, all EC approval need for new comer as a fully membership.
And then, the office manager contacts the person who listed as MRO membership. When they came office manager share them our community objective paper and how we support for community member after he is accepted as fully membership. Every membership has the chance, when they fall sick we sent them ACTs Clinic, Buddhist Tzu-Chi Clinic and GHKL Hospital. For that we support them registration fee and Taxi fare. When they were hospitalized we support them 30 percents of medical expense.
The office manager keep membership fees and every evening he transfer the amount of the money in a day to treasurer with receipt. This is our procedure of making membership card.
